Arsenal Target Second Midfielder After Bruno Guimarães Agreement
Arsenal are reportedly planning another midfield signing after moving closer to completing a deal for Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United.
The Gunners are said to have agreed an initial £77 million fee for the Brazilian, with discussions over bonuses and agent fees still ongoing. Guimarães is also expected to miss Newcastle’s pre-season trip, fueling speculation that his transfer is nearing completion.
According to reports, Arsenal have now turned their attention to Mainz midfielder Kaishu Sano and have already contacted his representatives. The 25-year-old has also attracted interest from Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and AC Milan thanks to his defensive qualities, technical ability, and tireless work rate.
Mainz are believed to value Sano between £43 million and £51 million. The Japan international, who featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, remains under contract until 2028.
If he joins Arsenal, Sano is expected to provide squad depth as Mikel Arteta prepares for another campaign competing in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.
Meanwhile, Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel has insisted the Bundesliga side are under no pressure to sell, stressing that Sano will only leave if an exceptional offer arrives.
