Bruno Guimaraes has paid an emotional tribute to Eddie Howe following the manager’s departure from Newcastle United, adding further fuel to speculation over his expected move to Arsenal.
Howe’s exit was confirmed after a successful five-year spell in charge at St James’ Park, during which he transformed Newcastle into Champions League contenders and guided the club to its first major trophy in 70 years with the 2025 Carabao Cup triumph.
Reports suggest Howe became frustrated with the club’s transfer strategy after several key players departed, including Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali. Before leaving, he also hinted that captain Bruno Guimaraes could be the next high-profile exit.
According to reports, Arsenal have already seen a £77 million offer accepted for the Brazilian midfielder, with only bonuses and agent fees still to be resolved. Guimaraes had previously informed Newcastle that he wanted to leave but made it clear he would not force through a transfer.
The 28-year-old has also delayed joining Newcastle’s pre-season training camp, further increasing expectations that a move to the Emirates is close.
Guimaraes, who joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022, took to Instagram to thank Howe for believing in him, helping him develop as both a footballer and a person, and giving him the captain’s armband. He described Howe as one of the best managers he has worked with and wished him success in the future.
During Howe’s tenure, Guimaraes scored 31 goals and provided 32 assists in 195 appearances, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders. His heartfelt farewell has only strengthened speculation that his Newcastle career is nearing its end, with Arsenal now appearing to be his most likely destination.
