Arsenal agree Bruno Guimaraes deal as transfer ripple effect begins
Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Newcastle United to sign captain Bruno Guimaraes after improving their offer for the Brazilian midfielder.
Reports claim the Gunners’ bid of around £77 million has been accepted, with only bonuses and agent-related details still to be finalized. Arsenal had previously seen two offers rejected as Newcastle held out for a higher fee.
The move would make Guimaraes Arsenal’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Christos Tzolis. Former Newcastle boss Eddie Howe had recently expressed hope that the midfielder would remain at St James’ Park but admitted he could not guarantee his future.
The transfer is also expected to benefit French club Lyon, who negotiated a 20 percent sell-on clause when Guimaraes joined Newcastle in 2022. As a result, Lyon are set to receive a significant financial boost, which could strengthen their position in the transfer market.
With improved finances, Lyon may increase their asking prices for sought-after players such as Malick Fofana and Pavel Sulc, potentially influencing transfer plans for clubs including Tottenham and Leeds.
If the deal is completed, Guimaraes will join Arsenal’s growing Brazilian contingent alongside Gabriel Magalhães, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.
