Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has delivered a fresh injury update on three players ahead of the Carabao Cup showdown against Chelsea, with Florian Wirtz looking the most likely to feature.
The German attacking midfielder picked up an ankle problem during Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Brighton on Saturday, raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming cup encounter.
However, Iraola has offered encouraging news, expressing confidence that Wirtz could recover in time to make the squad.
“Florian was quite fine. I’m quite optimistic that he will be available,” the Liverpool boss explained.
Unfortunately, the situation appears less promising for Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz, with Iraola admitting that both players face a tougher race to be fit for the match.
The manager refused to completely rule either player out but acknowledged that their chances of featuring are less encouraging than Wirtz’s.
Iraola also confirmed that Liverpool will make several changes to their starting XI as they look to manage the players’ fitness during a demanding run of fixtures.
Despite the expected rotation, the Reds remain determined to secure victory against Chelsea and progress in the Carabao Cup.
