Tottenham’s Squad Revamp Is Gathering Pace Under De Zerbi, But Supporters Believe One Key Signing Is Still Needed
Tottenham Hotspur have made an impressive start to the summer transfer window, assembling one of the Premier League’s most ambitious recruitment drives under Roberto De Zerbi. The arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes have transformed the midfield, while Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dúbravka, and Jan Paul van Hecke have added valuable experience and quality to the defensive unit.
Following two successive 17th-place finishes, Spurs are finally laying the foundations for a fresh era. However, despite the encouraging progress, many supporters believe the rebuild remains incomplete.
With the defence strengthened and the midfield significantly upgraded, fans are united on one priority: signing a proven goalscorer.
Last season exposed Tottenham’s biggest weakness. The team created opportunities but lacked a ruthless finisher to convert them consistently. De Zerbi has already built a side capable of controlling possession, with Tonali, Fernandes, Senesi, and Van Hecke all comfortable playing out from the back. But supporters fear that dominating the ball will count for little without a clinical striker capable of converting chances into victories.
Tottenham continue to be linked with several attacking talents, including wingers Savinho and Cody Gakpo, as well as Bournemouth youngster Eli Junior Kroupi. Even so, there has been little concrete progress toward signing an established No. 9 — a position many fans now view as the club’s biggest priority.
There is also a growing belief that Spurs do not need to sell Richarlison or Solanke before adding another striker. The club has already shown its willingness to strengthen key areas first before deciding who departs, having reinforced the defence ahead of any significant exits.
De Zerbi’s vision is becoming increasingly clear: a solid defensive structure combined with a technically gifted midfield capable of dictating games. The next step is converting that control into goals and victories. Creative talents such as Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons can provide the chances, but supporters believe they now need an elite finisher capable of delivering 20 or more goals each season and producing in the biggest matches.
Tottenham once relied on the deadly partnership of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to strike fear into opponents, and many fans feel that level of consistent firepower has never truly been replaced. With the foundations now taking shape under De Zerbi, attention has turned to signing the kind of striker who can elevate Spurs back into the Premier League’s top tier.
With plenty of time still remaining in the transfer window, supporters are urging the club to make one final statement signing before Europe’s biggest clubs snap up the best striking talent available. For many, the message is clear: the rebuild is progressing well, but it will not be complete until Tottenham have a genuine world-class goalscorer leading the attack.
