Arsenal Consider Shock Move for Tottenham Star Expected to Leave This Summer

Arsenal Eye Surprise Move for Tottenham Defender Cristian Romero Amid Saliba Injury

Arsenal are reportedly exploring a shock move for Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his defence following William Saliba’s injury.

Although transfers between the North London rivals are extremely uncommon, Romero’s expected exit from Spurs this summer has sparked interest from the Gunners.

Tottenham appear to be preparing for Romero’s departure after signing defenders Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi. While the Argentine remains under contract until 2029, Spurs are believed to be open to offers, with a significant transfer fee expected.

Inter Milan are currently leading the race for Romero’s signature after making contact with his representatives. The 2022 World Cup winner is reportedly interested in returning to Serie A, where he previously impressed with Atalanta.

However, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona are also monitoring the defender’s situation, although Barcelona’s financial challenges could affect any potential move.

Arsenal’s interest comes after Saliba suffered a setback with a back injury during France’s World Cup campaign, leaving Arteta in need of another right-sided centre-back.

Romero’s experience, leadership, and Premier League pedigree make him an attractive option, but completing a deal with Tottenham would be extremely difficult. Spurs are unlikely to strengthen a direct rival without demanding a premium fee, while the defender may also favour a return to Italy with Inter Milan.

Although Romero fits Arsenal’s requirements, the Gunners could ultimately decide that pursuing a less complicated and more affordable alternative is the wiser option.
