Liverpool and Arsenal dealt Trent Alexander-Arnold setback as Real Madrid star rules out January move
Liverpool and Arsenal have suffered a setback in their interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the Real Madrid defender reportedly having no plans to leave the Spanish giants during the January transfer window.
The 27-year-old has struggled to secure a regular starting role since moving to Real Madrid in the summer of 2025, prompting speculation about his long-term future at the club.
According to reports, both Liverpool and Arsenal are monitoring his situation and would be interested in bringing the England international back to the Premier League. However, Alexander-Arnold is currently focused on remaining in Madrid and fighting for his place.
Alexander-Arnold determined to stay
The arrival of Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan has reportedly made competition for the right-back position even tougher. Alexander-Arnold has featured in only five matches so far and has started just two of Real Madrid’s seven league games.
Despite his limited playing time, the former Liverpool academy graduate remains determined to prove himself and earn a more important role.
While intermediaries have reportedly explored possible options for him, a January departure is not currently being considered by the defender.
Why Liverpool and Arsenal are interested
Arsenal are looking for additional quality at right-back amid concerns over Ben White’s fitness and long-term availability.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have struggled to fully replace Alexander-Arnold since his departure. Neither Jeremie Frimpong nor Conor Bradley has completely solved the problem, increasing speculation that the Reds could consider bringing their former star back to Anfield.
Despite interest from both Premier League clubs, Alexander-Arnold appears ready to remain at Real Madrid for now. His future could be reassessed at the end of the season if his situation does not improve.
