Martin Ødegaard Furious With Bernardo Silva After Late Challenge in Norway vs Portugal
Martin Ødegaard has criticised Bernardo Silva following a controversial late tackle during Norway’s Nations League clash with Portugal on Sunday.
Portugal secured a 2-1 victory in Oslo, with João Félix and Gonçalo Ramos finding the net for Jorge Jesus’ side. Erling Haaland scored Norway’s equaliser, but Ramos’ goal ultimately gave Portugal all three points.
One of the biggest talking points came when Silva caught Ødegaard with a late challenge on the back of his leg, leaving the Arsenal captain visibly limping.
Ødegaard later confronted Silva over the incident, appearing frustrated by the midfielder’s actions.
Speaking to Norwegian outlet TV 2 after the match, Ødegaard did not hold back.
«“He completely lost his head. He just kicked me down long after I’d played the ball. I didn’t understand what he was doing.”»
The Arsenal captain also revealed that he had taken a knock to his ankle but was hopeful the problem would settle within a few days.
Norway defender Leo Østigård was also critical of the challenge, suggesting it appeared deliberate and could have warranted a red card.
Silva, however, offered a brief response when questioned by reporters in the mixed zone.
«“My friend, it’s football.”»
Norway will next face Wales, while Portugal will take on Denmark as both teams continue their Nations League campaigns.
The two sides are also scheduled to meet again on October 4, potentially giving Ødegaard and Silva another chance to face each other on the pitch.
