80m Liverpool Target Admits It’s a “Big Win” to Have the Reds Interested

£80m Liverpool Target Still Wants Anfield Move After Being Linked With Reds

Yankuba Minteh reportedly remains interested in joining Liverpool despite his current injury setback.

Gambian football expert Baboucarr Fallaboweh told Sport Witness that the Brighton winger is still keen on a move to Anfield and would likely remain in the Premier League if he eventually leaves the club.

Minteh is currently recovering from injury and is expected to return after the September international break.

Minteh Still Hopes Liverpool Return For Him

According to Fallaboweh, Liverpool remain the club Minteh would most like to join, although his injury has made it harder for him to demonstrate why the Reds were interested in signing him.

He explained that the 22-year-old could still attract interest from other major European clubs because being linked with Liverpool has raised his profile considerably.

Manchester United could also potentially enter the race if Minteh becomes available.

Being associated with a club like Liverpool is already a major boost for the winger, as it could encourage other top European sides to take a closer look at him.

Liverpool were interested in Minteh during pre-season despite his injury, so his current fitness problems may not necessarily end their interest.

If the Reds remain determined to strengthen the right side of their attack in January, another approach cannot be ruled out.

However, Brighton’s reported £80m asking price could prove to be the biggest obstacle. Either the Seagulls would need to lower their valuation, or Minteh would have to produce performances that justify such a huge fee.

Liverpool Already Have Several Wingers

Liverpool’s current squad could also make another winger difficult to justify.

Cody Gakpo, Bradley Barcola, Victor Munoz and Rio Ngumoha already provide options in the wide areas, although Liverpool still lack a natural right-sided winger who ideally operates from the right with his left foot.

With the club also needing to strengthen other positions, including midfield and right-back, another expensive winger could require a departure first.

Gakpo appears particularly unlikely to leave, given his impressive form at Anfield.

As things stand, Minteh may therefore have to wait until the summer for a potential Liverpool move, unless the club identifies another target or circumstances change during the season.
