Whatever Happened to Gareth Bale’s Tottenham Lookalike?

Former Tottenham youngster Kenny McEvoy has once again gone viral because of his remarkable resemblance to Wales legend Gareth Bale.

More than 2.6 million people reportedly came across posts about McEvoy after one X user shared old photos of him from his time at Spurs.

One fan joked: “It’s still mental to me that this bloke wasn’t Gareth Bale.”

Despite spending five years with Tottenham, McEvoy never made a senior appearance for the club. His closest opportunity came during the 2013/14 Europa League campaign, when he was named among the substitutes twice.

After leaving Spurs, McEvoy had loan spells with Peterborough, Colchester, Stevenage and York City before eventually making his move away from Tottenham permanent.

McEvoy Wanted a Fresh Start

In January 2016, McEvoy revealed his relief after Tottenham finally agreed to release him.

At the time, he was on loan at York City and explained that he had already decided he needed to leave Spurs in order to establish himself as a first-team player.

He thanked Tottenham supporters who had backed him and said he was looking forward to proving his doubters wrong.

McEvoy later joined York City permanently but departed after the 2015/16 season. He subsequently moved to South Normanton Athletic, where he enjoyed a productive spell.

His Football Career Came to an End in 2017

In January 2017, McEvoy attracted interest from several clubs, including Irish sides Sligo Rovers and Waterford. He eventually chose to join Waterford.

However, his time there lasted only around six months before he left by mutual consent.

McEvoy explained that he had accepted a full-time job in England, allowing him to provide greater stability for his young family.

According to his LinkedIn profile, McEvoy is now working as a managing consultant at Ford & Stanley, a UK-based talent services and recruitment company.

Despite stepping away from professional football years ago, his striking resemblance to Gareth Bale continues to bring him back into the spotlight whenever old photos resurface online.
