Deal Confirmed: Liverpool Hand Young Goalkeeper New Professional Contract 🔴
Liverpool have officially announced a new contract for one of their promising young goalkeepers.
While Alisson Becker’s future remains a talking point with his current deal entering its final months, Liverpool have continued strengthening their goalkeeping options for the future.
The Reds recently agreed to bring in Genk youngster Lucca Brughmans, who will stay with the Belgian club this season before joining Liverpool in 2027.
Matty Wright commits his future to Liverpool
Liverpool confirmed on Tuesday that 18-year-old goalkeeper Matty Wright has signed his first full professional contract with the club.
Wright joined the Reds in the summer of 2025 and has since developed with the academy, featuring regularly for Simon Wiles’ Under-18 side.
He has been a key player for the U18s at the start of the current campaign, starting all but one of their matches in the Under-18 Premier League.
The new deal represents another important step in Wright’s development and signals Liverpool’s belief in his potential.
Liverpool continue planning for the future
Wright’s new contract adds further depth to Liverpool’s long-term goalkeeping plans.
With Giorgi Mamardashvili already at the club and Brughmans set to arrive in 2027, Liverpool have several options for the future. Freddie Woodman also provides experienced cover, while Vitezslav Jaros, Armin Pecsi, Harvey Davies and Bailey Hall remain part of the wider goalkeeping setup.
Some of those players could leave permanently or head out on loan in the future, but Liverpool appear to have plenty of options between the posts.
For Wright, his professional career is only just beginning, but Liverpool’s decision to hand him a new deal shows the club sees significant potential in the young goalkeeper. 🔴
