TOTTENHAM INSIDER REVEALS WHY DELE ALLI WAS LEFT OUT OF HARRY KANE’S BALLON D’OR CELEBRATIONS
Tottenham Hotspur insider John Wenham has expressed sadness over Dele Alli’s absence from the celebrations following Harry Kane’s historic 2026 Ballon d’Or triumph.
Kane claimed football’s most prestigious individual award after an outstanding season in which he scored 73 goals for Bayern Munich and England. He also won the Bundesliga title and helped England finish third at the World Cup.
The former Tottenham striker became the first Englishman since 2001, and only the fifth in history, to receive the Ballon d’Or.
Several of his former Spurs teammates were present to celebrate the remarkable achievement, including Tim Sherwood, Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason, Matt Doherty and Eric Dier.
Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said he was delighted to see Kane receive the recognition, particularly with several familiar faces from his Tottenham days sharing the special occasion.
However, he admitted that Dele Alli’s absence was disappointing.
Wenham opens up on Dele Alli’s absence
Kane and Dele enjoyed a close partnership during their time together at Tottenham and with the England national team. They played alongside each other 233 times, combining for 31 goals.
Wenham suggested that their relationship may have become distant over the years, pointing to a recent livestream phone call between the former teammates.
During the conversation, Kane admitted that he had not spoken to Dele for quite some time, with the pair apparently going two or three years without catching up.
Wenham described the situation as unfortunate, considering how important both players were to Tottenham during their time together.
He also acknowledged that friendships cannot be forced, but felt it was sad to see Dele seemingly disconnected from the group of former teammates celebrating Kane’s success.
Kane and Dele share emotional moment on livestream
Interestingly, Dele actually contacted Kane during a livestream shortly before the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Kane welcomed the call by admitting that they had not spoken in a while before asking Dele about his current living situation and what he had been doing recently.
Dele explained that he would give him a proper update away from the livestream.
Kane jokingly responded by hoping his former teammate was working hard.
Dele then showed his support for Kane, insisting that there was only one deserving winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Despite their apparent lack of regular contact, Dele made it clear that he was delighted to see his former Tottenham teammate receive football’s biggest individual honour.
