Tottenham Told to Pay £72m for Cody Gakpo as Liverpool Set Firm Asking Price

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been informed that they will need to pay £72 million if they want to sign Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo this summer.

After strengthening their defence and midfield, Spurs are now focusing on adding more quality in attack. Roberto De Zerbi is believed to be targeting both a left winger and a centre-forward before the transfer window closes, with Gakpo emerging as one of the club’s leading options.

According to reports, Tottenham are now among the frontrunners for the Netherlands international, who registered nine goals and six assists across all competitions last season.

Liverpool are said to value Gakpo at around £72 million, with the fee reportedly reflecting the market after Barcelona’s big-money move for Anthony Gordon earlier in the summer. The Reds are believed to be open to selling as they pursue Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, a deal that could require a significant financial outlay.

Although Gakpo helped Liverpool win the Premier League, his spell at Anfield has been marked by inconsistency, largely because he has frequently been deployed in different attacking roles rather than his preferred position on the left wing.

A move to Tottenham could offer the 27-year-old a more defined role under De Zerbi, allowing him to operate regularly from the left flank, where he has often looked at his best.

The Dutch international is renowned for his ability to cut inside, strike from distance, attack the penalty area and contribute in the air. He also impressed on the wing for the Netherlands during this summer’s World Cup.

While the reported £72 million valuation reflects his experience and quality, it remains unclear whether Gakpo would be willing to leave Anfield, particularly for a club that will not be competing in the Champions League next season.

Tottenham now face a straightforward decision: meet Liverpool’s valuation or look elsewhere as they continue their search for attacking reinforcements.
