Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman was shown a straight red card as England U19s beat the USA 2-1 in a behind-closed-doors clash in Spain.

The 16-year-old made an impressive start to the match, setting up Reigan Heskey for England’s opener inside the first minute.

However, Dowman’s afternoon ended in controversial fashion in the 74th minute after he was dismissed following an incident involving an American player. Reports suggest he made a small kick-out after the opponent had gone past him, with some at the game reportedly feeling a yellow card would have been sufficient.

England were forced to play the final 17 minutes with 10 men but held on for the victory. Luca Williams-Barnett scored the winner in the 60th minute to maintain England’s perfect record during the current international window.

Despite the setback, Dowman continues to attract major attention following his rapid rise at Arsenal. The teenager has already made an impact at first-team level despite his age.

England will face Belgium in their final match of the international window on Monday.
