Bruno Guimaraes has revealed the 10-word message Declan Rice sent him before completing his blockbuster move to Arsenal.
The former Newcastle captain has officially joined the Premier League champions after weeks of speculation, signing a four-year contract that runs until 2030, with an option for an additional season.
Following the £75 million transfer, Guimaraes admitted the decision to leave Newcastle was one of the toughest of his career. He has now revealed that Rice reached out to him personally before the move was completed.
Rice reportedly wrote: “Come here and please no more fights, now we’re friends.”
Guimaraes said he was delighted to receive the message, especially given the heated battles the pair had during their time as Premier League rivals.
The Brazilian also revealed that Arsenal’s Brazilian contingent, including Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, had been encouraging him to make the move.
Guimaraes is now set to form a formidable midfield partnership with Rice and captain Martin Odegaard. The new Arsenal signing believes their midfield could rank among the best in Europe.
The 28-year-old has promised Arsenal supporters that he will bring energy, composure, creativity and a warrior mentality to the team as he looks to help the club compete for more major trophies.
He could make his Arsenal debut as early as Sunday in the Emirates Cup final against Borussia Dortmund.
