Liverpool Make Immediate Decision on Major Signing Following Jeff Bezos Investment

Liverpool Identify First Major Transfer Target Following Jeff Bezos Investment Interest

Liverpool have reportedly already decided on their first major transfer target if Jeff Bezos’ proposed investment gives the club a significant financial boost.

The Amazon founder is part of a consortium that is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire a 30% stake in Liverpool, with the group potentially injecting around £1.5 billion into the club.

The consortium, led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia, also includes Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Liverpool’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group, have already confirmed that Bhatia’s investment group has expressed interest in taking a minority stake.

While negotiations continue, Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola is focused on strengthening his squad ahead of his first season in charge.

The Reds have already brought in Victor Munoz from Osasuna, Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes and Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan from Barcelona, with Liverpool reportedly having the option to make Araujo’s move permanent for £47.1 million.

However, further additions could be on the way.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has reportedly hit a stumbling block, with the Reds currently some distance away from PSG’s £128 million valuation of the France international.

Another player on Iraola’s radar is Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. The Liverpool manager knows Scott well from their time together at Bournemouth, while Chelsea have previously been linked with a £64 million bid for the midfielder.

Despite the interest, Liverpool are reportedly unwilling to meet Bournemouth’s £80 million asking price. Scott remains contracted to the Cherries until 2028.

With the transfer window closing on September 1, Liverpool still have time to make further moves.

Van Dijk welcomes more new arrivals

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has made it clear that he would welcome further additions to the squad.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 3-2 pre-season defeat to Monaco, the Dutch defender was asked about Araujo’s arrival and whether he would like to see more new faces at Anfield.

Van Dijk made it clear that any new player joining the club would receive a warm welcome.

The experienced centre-back also spoke positively about working with Iraola, revealing that he had a good conversation with the new manager shortly after his appointment.

Van Dijk also stressed that his positive relationship with former boss Arne Slot should not be overlooked, but acknowledged that the squad must adapt to Iraola’s different methods, coaching staff and training approach.

With a potential Bezos-backed financial boost on the horizon, Liverpool could be preparing for a major spending spree before the transfer window closes.
