Chelsea are reportedly keeping a close watch on Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz after Xabi Alonso advised the Blues to monitor the German international’s situation at Anfield.
The 23-year-old has experienced a mixed start to his Liverpool career following his big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen. However, his recent performances suggest he is gradually finding his feet in the Premier League.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are interested in the possibility of signing Wirtz if Liverpool ever become open to selling him. Alonso, who worked with the midfielder at Leverkusen, is believed to have encouraged the London club to remain alert.
However, Chelsea are not currently making an active move for Wirtz, and Liverpool have no plans to let him leave. The midfielder is also determined to prove himself at Anfield.
Wirtz has recently shown signs of returning to his best form. He created nine chances from open play against Brentford, a remarkable achievement that highlighted his growing influence. He also found the net in Liverpool’s thrilling 4-3 Champions League victory over Villarreal.
Alonso has previously praised Wirtz highly, describing him as one of the best players in the world and calling him “world-class.”
The Chelsea manager’s familiarity with the German star could become significant if the opportunity to reunite ever arises. Nevertheless, such a move currently appears unlikely.
Liverpool remain in a strong position, with Wirtz contracted to the club until 2030. His recent improvement also gives the Reds plenty of reasons to remain patient and continue supporting their expensive signing.
For now, Chelsea are monitoring the situation, but Liverpool’s priority will be helping Wirtz fulfil his enormous potential at Anfield.
