Tottenham Hotspur are still determined to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes, with the North London side looking to add both quality and much-needed depth in the final third.
Spurs have enjoyed an ambitious summer so far, addressing several weaknesses across the squad. Their defence has received major reinforcements with the arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi, giving Roberto De Zerbi a stronger platform for the new season.
The midfield has also undergone a significant transformation. Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali have brought additional creativity, energy and experience, highlighting Tottenham’s ambition to compete at the highest level.
However, one major issue remains — the attack.
Tottenham have yet to make a significant attacking signing this summer, and that could become a problem if the situation remains unchanged until deadline day. Several forwards have been linked with Spurs, but negotiations have failed to produce a major breakthrough, while injuries have increased the need for greater attacking depth.
Ideally, De Zerbi wants forwards who can operate from the left but also move into central positions when required. Tactical flexibility will be crucial, with Spurs needing attackers capable of pressing, rotating positions and consistently threatening the opposition goal.
One of the biggest names linked with Tottenham has been Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. Spurs reportedly saw the England international as a major attacking option following his loan spell at Barcelona.
Rashford’s ability to play on the left, operate centrally and exploit space with his pace made him an attractive option for De Zerbi’s system. Tottenham were reportedly considering a permanent deal worth around €42 million, despite his substantial £325,000-a-week wages.
However, that pursuit now appears to be losing momentum.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Rashford has returned to Manchester United’s Carrington training base for pre-season and is increasingly leaning towards remaining at Old Trafford for the upcoming campaign. United themselves also appear more willing to keep the forward under Michael Carrick rather than push for a transfer.
That could force Tottenham to explore alternative targets.
One potential option is Manchester City attacker Omar Marmoush. The Egypt international offers pace, intelligent movement and the ability to operate in multiple attacking positions. Reports suggest Marmoush could be open to leaving in search of more regular playing time, potentially giving Spurs another route to strengthen their frontline.
For Tottenham, the message is simple: the defence and midfield have been significantly upgraded, but the rebuild still needs more attacking firepower.
With the new season approaching and injuries already creating concerns, Spurs face an important decision. They must either revive their pursuit of another attacking target or move quickly for an alternative such as Marmoush.
Getting the final piece of the puzzle right could make Tottenham considerably stronger under De Zerbi. Failing to add another forward, however, could leave attacking depth as one of the biggest weaknesses heading into the new campaign.
