Sam Allardyce has suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold should consider returning to Liverpool if he fails to secure regular playing time at Real Madrid.
The England international’s role in Madrid remains uncertain, particularly following Denzel Dumfries’ arrival and Jose Mourinho’s decision to experiment with Alexander-Arnold in midfield.
“If he is going to be a Real Madrid player, then this season he needs to be playing more than ever. If not, he should come back to the Premier League,” Allardyce said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast. “Liverpool could do with him back.”
Allardyce also defended the 27-year-old against criticism of his defensive ability, insisting that he is “not much worse than most other full-backs.” He also highlighted Alexander-Arnold’s passing ability as a “massive asset”, while pointing to his recent England recall under Thomas Tuchel.
