Liverpool and Manchester United Hit by Fresh Injury Concerns During International Duty
Liverpool and Manchester United could be facing more injury problems after two of their players were forced off during Sunday’s international fixtures.
Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo was substituted just 17 minutes into the Netherlands’ match against Serbia after appearing to pick up an injury following a heavy challenge.
The 27-year-old initially attempted to continue after receiving treatment, but he soon indicated to the Netherlands bench that he could not carry on. He was subsequently replaced by Ruben van Bommel.
Gakpo has enjoyed a productive start to the season, recording two goals and four assists in six appearances for Liverpool across all competitions.
The injury will be another concern for Liverpool, who have already been dealing with several players on the sidelines. Alexander Isak also recently returned to Merseyside early from international duty after suffering an injury.
Meanwhile, Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu was also forced off during Denmark’s clash with Wales.
Dorgu lasted just 31 minutes before limping off and heading down the tunnel. Mohamed Daramy came on as his replacement.
United are now waiting for more information regarding the extent of the defender’s injury.
The setback comes shortly after United captain Bruno Fernandes was ruled out of Portugal’s match against Norway because of an injury.
Both clubs will be hoping their players’ problems are not serious, with further medical assessments expected to provide more clarity.
