Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read as they assess potential options for January.
According to TEAMtalk, the 20-year-old has already provided five assists this season and has emerged as a possible target as Liverpool look to strengthen at right-back.
Conor Bradley remains some way from returning after suffering a serious knee injury against Arsenal in January. Meanwhile, Jeremie Frimpong has struggled to consistently impress, leading head coach Andoni Iraola to deploy centre-back Ronald Araujo at right-back.
Liverpool are not the only club believed to be interested in Read, with Manchester City and Arsenal also reportedly monitoring the young defender. Arsenal have since brought in Ezri Konsa, who can provide cover at right-back when Jurrien Timber or Ben White are unavailable, potentially leaving City as Liverpool’s main competition.
Manchester City have continued using Matheus Nunes in the position despite the Portugal international being primarily a midfielder. With City reportedly looking for a natural right-back, Read is said to have remained on their radar for around a year.
Araujo has impressed supporters since joining on loan from Barcelona last month, but the arrival of Read in January could limit his opportunities.
Liverpool have an option to sign Araujo permanently for €55m (£47m) at the end of the season. However, the Uruguayan would likely need to produce consistently outstanding performances to convince the club to activate such a sizeable fee.
There could also be a major opening in central defence if captain Virgil van Dijk departs when his contract expires in June. That could leave a place alongside Jeremy Jacquet, although questions remain over whether Araujo could ultimately step into the role left by the Liverpool captain.
