There is currently “no suggestion” that Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha is unhappy at Anfield despite reported interest from Arsenal, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
Ornstein confirmed that Arsenal are monitoring the 18-year-old, but a move to the Emirates does not appear to be imminent.
“I think there is some interest from Arsenal in Rio Ngumoha. I heard during the summer that they like him, and there is likely to be interest from several clubs. However, that doesn’t mean Liverpool are looking to sell him.”
He added that Liverpool are keen to extend Ngumoha’s contract, although no agreement has been reached yet.
“Liverpool want to renew his contract. I’m not aware of an agreement being reached on a new deal yet. We’ll have to see what happens between him and Liverpool because there is no indication that he is unhappy at the club.”
Ngumoha signed a three-year contract extension with the Reds in September 2025, just over a year after joining Liverpool from Chelsea.
The fact that Liverpool are already looking to secure another deal with the teenager is notable and could be an attempt to discourage interest from clubs monitoring his situation.
Arsenal are not the only club to have shown interest. Bayern Munich were also reported to have made enquiries about Ngumoha’s availability during the summer.
One potential issue for the youngster, however, could be the competition for places on the left wing. Liverpool currently have several players who naturally prefer that position, including Bradley Barcola, Cody Gakpo and Victor Munoz.
As a result, one of them has had to operate on the right, with Ngumoha appearing to be the player most affected. Two of his three starts this season have come from the right flank, where he has not appeared completely comfortable.
That situation could eventually lead Ngumoha to consider whether his development would be better served elsewhere, particularly at a club where the competition for a place on the left side is less intense.
