Tottenham Transfer Blow as Academy Defender’s Exit Falls Through
Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt an unexpected setback in the transfer market after academy defender Alfie Dorrington decided against completing his proposed move overseas.
Spurs have been one of the busiest clubs this summer, with Roberto De Zerbi strengthening his squad while also allowing several academy graduates to leave. The departures of Tynan Thompson, Alfie Devine, and Will Lankshear have reportedly generated around £34 million, although the strategy has divided supporters.
Dorrington looked set to become the latest youngster to depart, with Polish club Pogoń Szczecin believed to be on the verge of signing the 21-year-old centre-back. Reports suggested the deal was close to completion, with a medical already arranged.
However, journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Dorrington has now pulled out of the move, opting against relocating to Poland. Instead, the defender is said to be prioritizing a move to another club in England to continue his development.
The young centre-back has gained valuable experience through loan spells at Salford City and Aberdeen, while also making his senior Tottenham debut in a Premier League match against Southampton in December 2024.
Despite this setback, Tottenham’s transfer business is far from over. Guglielmo Vicario continues to be linked with an exit after missing the club’s pre-season tour, while Cristian Romero remains a target for Inter Milan and Barcelona.
Ashley Phillips is also attracting interest following an impressive Championship campaign, and Spurs are expected to remain active in both the incoming and outgoing transfer market before the window closes.
For now, Dorrington’s future remains uncertain, with Tottenham waiting to see if an English club will come forward with a suitable offer after his surprise decision to reject the move abroad.
