Romano claims ‘deal could happen’ as Liverpool midfielder faces late summer exit
Inter Milan’s pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones could be reaching a crucial point, with the Serie A club reportedly becoming increasingly confident that they can reach an agreement before the transfer window closes.
Jones has been one of Inter’s main midfield targets since the start of the summer. However, negotiations have been complicated by Liverpool’s valuation of the England international and Inter’s need to make room in their squad.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter still view Jones as their priority midfield target and believe a deal could potentially be completed for around €35 million.
The Italian club is not expected to make another formal offer just yet, though, as they first want to resolve the future of Davide Frattesi. Once Frattesi leaves, Inter are expected to step up their efforts to sign Jones before deadline day.
Liverpool have reportedly been seeking closer to €40 million, meaning the latest €35m figure could indicate that both clubs are within touching distance of finding a compromise.
Frattesi’s departure is therefore likely to be the key factor. Inter reportedly value the midfielder at around €25m-€30m, and his sale would provide the funds and squad space needed to pursue Jones.
Jones would bring technical ability, energy and versatility to Inter’s midfield. His ability to operate as an attacking No. 8 or play in a deeper role makes him an attractive option for manager Cristian Chivu.
For Liverpool, the decision could be more complicated. Jones is an academy graduate who remains a useful squad option, but a €35m sale would represent a significant financial return while giving the midfielder the opportunity to take on a bigger role elsewhere.
With Inter waiting for Frattesi’s exit, the midfielder’s departure could ultimately provide the green light for a fresh bid for Jones.
