Liverpool transfer target David Otorbi has reportedly seen his release clause rise to €60 million (£50m), just days after the Reds explored a move for the Valencia youngster.
According to Spanish outlet Plaza Deportiva, Otorbi’s contract has been automatically extended by three years, with his release clause doubling from €30m (£25m).
The report supports an earlier claim from X account Tribuna Deportiva, which stated that Liverpool had informed the winger’s agent of their intention to activate his original €30m release clause.
However, Valencia became aware of Liverpool’s interest and moved quickly to activate the contract extension. The new agreement was initially expected to take effect only after the teenager reached a certain number of appearances, but the Spanish club acted early to protect themselves against interest from the Premier League.
Earlier this week, Otorbi’s representative, Nacho Gallart, addressed the growing interest in his client during an interview with Radio Marca Valencia.
“It’s true that many clubs have called us, especially from the Premier League. We are very comfortable in Valencia and, for the moment, our only objective is to continue learning, continue adding and help the team if the coach considers it appropriate. We want it to be slow; we believe that it is necessary, and we do not want to rush his development,” he said.
Those comments have taken on added significance following reports of Liverpool’s interest in the youngster.
Otorbi was born and raised in Valencia before joining the club’s academy, where he progressed through the youth ranks and eventually began featuring regularly for the B team.
The teenager made his senior debut in a Copa del Rey clash against FC Cartagena in early 2024. Later that year, he made his first La Liga appearance against Barcelona.
However, he had to wait another two years for his second league appearance, coming off the bench against Real Betis in August.
Last month, the 19-year-old was handed his first La Liga start against Barcelona, although Valencia suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat.
