Everton are reportedly showing interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence as they look to strengthen their full-back options this summer.
Spurs have been busy reinforcing their defence ahead of the 2026–27 season after a poor campaign last time out. The club have already added several defensive reinforcements, including Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers, while also agreeing a £52m deal with Brighton for Jan Paul van Hecke on a permanent basis. These additions have significantly improved squad depth across both centre-back and full-back positions.
Despite that, one of Spurs’ squad players is now attracting attention from elsewhere.
According to The Times, Everton are exploring options to strengthen at full-back, with Djed Spence among the names they are considering. The Merseyside club have had to deploy centre-back Jake O’Brien in wide defensive roles due to uncertainty over Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson, neither of whom fully convinces manager David Moyes.
Everton are also assessing other targets, including Guela Doué, Raoul Bellanova, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. However, Doué is believed to be too expensive, which could make Spence a more realistic option.
Spence, who Tottenham were reportedly close to selling for around £8.5m during his loan spell at Genoa in 2024, has since seen his stock rise and is now even involved on the international stage with England at the World Cup finals.
At Spurs, his versatility is highly valued. He can operate across both defensive flanks and in multiple midfield roles, offering useful tactical flexibility. While he is not a regular starter—behind Destiny Udogie at left-back and Pedro Porro at right-back—his ability to cover several positions makes him an important squad option, especially given Udogie’s recent injury concerns.
His career stats highlight that versatility, with appearances across right-back, left-back, and even midfield roles throughout his time at Tottenham.
