Tottenham Hotspur have surprisingly entered the race for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, with reports indicating growing confidence within the club that a deal for the Italian international may be achievable.
Although Arsenal and Manchester United have also shown interest in the 26-year-old at different points, Spurs are currently believed to be the most keen. However, any potential transfer would be difficult due to Newcastle’s strong stance, as Tonali is under contract until 2030.
Former Aston Villa striker and talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has cast doubt on the rumours, questioning the sense in a player of Tonali’s calibre joining a team he feels has underperformed in recent seasons. He also claimed Tottenham are no longer considered part of the Premier League elite following back-to-back 17th-place finishes.
Even with those reservations, optimism is growing around Roberto De Zerbi’s project in North London. Spurs have already been linked with a number of big names, including Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, and Tonali, suggesting plans for a significant squad rebuild.
With an active transfer window expected ahead, both Tottenham and Newcastle could become key players in one of the summer’s most intriguing transfer sagas.
