Tottenham Hotspur delivered a memorable performance to defeat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, leaving manager Xabi Alonso frustrated after a disappointing London derby.
Roberto De Zerbi’s men secured a huge victory, ending their long wait for a Premier League win at Chelsea’s home ground and recording back-to-back victories.
😳 CHELSEA STRUGGLE AS SPURS GAIN CONTROL
Both sides created chances early on, but Tottenham gradually grew into the game and looked increasingly dangerous.
Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders made several important saves, while Spurs shot-stopper Antonin Kinsky also produced key interventions to deny the hosts.
Chelsea struggled to create a consistent attacking threat, with João Pedro’s absence through injury proving a significant setback for Alonso’s side.
😱 GOALKEEPER BLUNDER HANDS TOTTENHAM THE LEAD!
Tottenham finally broke the deadlock in the 77th minute through a costly mistake from Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders.
Attempting to deal with a corner delivered by Mateus Fernandes, the young goalkeeper punched the ball into his own net, gifting Spurs a crucial advantage at a decisive moment.
🟥 COLE PALMER SENT OFF AS CHELSEA’S NIGHT GETS WORSE!
Chelsea’s hopes of fighting back suffered another major setback just three minutes later when Cole Palmer received a second yellow card in the 80th minute.
His challenge on Conor Gallagher resulted in another booking, leaving Chelsea with only ten players for the closing stages.
The decision sparked discussion, particularly because Palmer had already been involved in another controversial incident earlier in the match.
However, Alonso appeared to accept that the referee had made the correct call over the midfielder’s dismissal.
🔥 MATHYS TEL DELIVERS THE FINAL BLOW!
Tottenham made their numerical advantage count in the 87th minute when Mathys Tel produced a brilliant individual run before calmly finishing to make it 2-0.
His late strike sealed a memorable victory for Spurs and sent their travelling supporters into celebration.
🗣️ XABI ALONSO REACTS TO CHELSEA’S DEFEAT
After the final whistle, Alonso admitted that Chelsea had fallen below expectations.
He acknowledged that conceding the opening goal changed the game, while Palmer’s red card made an already difficult situation even more challenging.
The Chelsea boss also stressed the need for greater maturity during difficult moments and accepted that his players had to take responsibility for the disappointing result.
Despite Penders’ costly error, Alonso stood by his goalkeeper, emphasising the importance of supporting players when mistakes happen.
⚪ TOTTENHAM FANS HAVE EVERY REASON TO CELEBRATE!
The victory represents a significant boost for De Zerbi’s Tottenham side, who followed up their previous 3-1 win over Coventry City with another important result.
Spurs showed determination, attacking quality and composure to secure all three points at a ground where they had struggled to win in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Chelsea must address their attacking difficulties and find a way to respond positively in their upcoming fixtures.
🔥 TOTTENHAM FANS, WHAT A RESULT!
Can De Zerbi finally turn Spurs into a consistent force, or will Chelsea bounce back in their next match?
