European clubs are reportedly preparing to intervene in the situation surrounding Darwin Núñez’s possible return to Liverpool, with fresh competition emerging for the Al Hilal striker.
The Uruguayan forward, currently on duty at the World Cup, joined Al Hilal in August 2025 from Liverpool for around £46.3 million after three inconsistent seasons at Anfield. During his time with the Reds, he scored 40 goals and provided 26 assists in 143 appearances, helping them secure the Premier League title in 2025, although his performances often divided opinion among fans.
Since moving to Saudi Arabia, Núñez has netted nine times in 24 matches, with Al Hilal finishing second behind Al Nassr in the league.
Recent reports from Uruguay suggested a potential return to Liverpool this summer, but those claims were quickly dismissed by sources close to the player and by journalist Fabrizio Romano, who insisted there is no ongoing contact or deal with the Reds. Similar reports from The Athletic also indicated that a return to Anfield is unlikely at this stage.
Meanwhile, new claims from Italy suggest AC Milan, now led by Ruben Amorim, are interested in signing Núñez. Amorim is also reportedly monitoring PSG striker Gonçalo Ramos as an alternative attacking option, with PSG valuing Ramos at around €40 million.
Both Núñez and Ramos remain under contract until 2028, making any transfer negotiations complex.
Despite speculation over his future, Núñez previously admitted he still feels a strong emotional connection to Liverpool, saying he misses the club and appreciated the support he received during difficult periods of his career there.
