Chelsea fans believe one first-team star could lose his place after Xabi Alonso’s new signing shines against Tottenham
Chelsea supporters have suggested that a current first-team player could be dropped after summer signing Marco Palestra produced an eye-catching display despite the Blues’ 2-1 pre-season defeat to Tottenham in Sydney.
In front of over 80,000 fans at Accor Stadium, Roberto De Zerbi’s Spurs edged the contest thanks to goals from Sandro Tonali and Richarlison, while Estevao scored Chelsea’s only goal.
Although Chelsea ended up on the losing side, Palestra impressed with a composed performance at right-back, earning widespread praise from supporters. Many fans highlighted his chemistry with Estevao and even claimed the Italian could eventually challenge or replace Reece James in Xabi Alonso’s starting lineup.
The 21-year-old, who became Alonso’s first signing after joining from Atalanta in a £47 million deal, has already generated excitement among Chelsea fans, with some predicting he has the qualities to become one of the Premier League’s top wing-backs.
Chelsea now continue their pre-season tour with upcoming matches against Juventus, AC Milan, Johor Darul Ta’zim, and Real Sociedad before kicking off their Premier League campaign away to Fulham.
