Tottenham and Liverpool Warned Against Costly Pursuit of Said El Mala

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have been advised to carefully consider any big-money move for FC Cologne starlet Said El Mala, with reports from Germany suggesting the talented teenager may not yet be prepared for the demands of Premier League football.

The 19-year-old winger enjoyed a breakout season in the Bundesliga and has quickly established himself as one of Germany’s most exciting young prospects. His rise has caught the attention of several European clubs, with Premier League teams among those monitoring his development.

Tottenham have reportedly been following El Mala since January, and Roberto De Zerbi is still believed to be keen on adding the youngster as part of Spurs’ youth-focused rebuild. However, as interest grows, Bundesliga experts have questioned whether a move to England at this stage would be the best step for his career.

Liverpool have also emerged as contenders after facing setbacks in their pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. El Mala is understood to be one of the alternatives being considered, but German journalist Christian Falk believes the youngster would benefit from more time to develop before joining a club expected to challenge for major trophies. While praising his immense potential, Falk warned that expectations should be managed.

Those same concerns could also apply to Tottenham. Although Spurs are committed to signing promising young talent, investing around £35 million in a player who may need time to adapt could be viewed as a significant risk.

Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are also said to be keeping tabs on El Mala, with FC Cologne reportedly valuing the winger at around €40 million (£34.5 million).

For Tottenham, the key question is whether El Mala’s long-term potential outweighs the need for players who can make an immediate impact. The teenager has all the attributes to succeed in England, but there are still doubts over whether he is ready to deliver at Premier League level right away.

With Liverpool, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest all interested, the race for El Mala is heating up. However, the latest reports suggest any club meeting Cologne’s valuation would be investing in future potential rather than a finished product.
