Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a setback in their search for attacking reinforcements after reports claimed that Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has rejected a move to North London, despite Spurs being prepared to match his reported £325,000-a-week salary.
Following an underwhelming Premier League campaign, Roberto De Zerbi is eager to strengthen his squad. Tottenham have already added Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Martin Dubravka to bolster the defence, but signing a quality attacker remains the club’s top priority.
The need for a new forward has become increasingly urgent. Dominic Solanke has struggled with injuries, Randal Kolo Muani has returned to PSG after an underwhelming loan spell, and Richarlison is approaching the final year of his contract, leaving Spurs short of dependable attacking options.
Rashford had emerged as an ideal target. The England international was reportedly available for around £40 million after an impressive loan spell at Barcelona, where he contributed 14 goals and 14 assists while helping the club win the La Liga title and a domestic cup. However, the Spanish side decided not to activate their £26 million purchase option.
Although Tottenham were willing to meet his salary demands, Rashford is reportedly not interested in joining another Premier League club. Instead, he is focused on securing a move abroad, with Barcelona still viewed as his preferred destination despite their recent signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.
For Spurs, missing out on Rashford is a significant disappointment. At the reported fee, he represented excellent value and possessed the pace, creativity, and versatility that would have fit perfectly into De Zerbi’s tactical setup. With the move now looking unlikely, Tottenham will have to explore alternative options as they continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new season.
