Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has suffered a major setback, with talks with Paris Saint-Germain failing to make significant progress.
The PSG winger has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield, with reports suggesting the France international is open to joining the Premier League. However, initial negotiations between the two clubs have reportedly stalled over PSG’s asking price.
The French champions value Barcola at around £145 million, but Liverpool are currently unwilling to match that figure. As a result, a deal remains far from being completed, leaving Andoni Iraola’s side facing the possibility of exploring alternative options before the September 1 transfer deadline.
Barcola still has two years left on his PSG contract and is reportedly reluctant to extend his stay due to concerns over his playing time. Iraola reportedly views the 23-year-old as an ideal final addition to Liverpool’s attacking options.
Liverpool have also held exploratory discussions regarding PSG youngster Ibrahim Mbaye, although any potential deal for the 18-year-old is understood to be separate from the Barcola negotiations.
Iraola wants to have five wingers available by the end of the window, with Victor Munoz already joining from Osasuna. Federico Chiesa, Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha currently provide further options out wide.
The Liverpool boss has also acknowledged that strengthening the wing position is a priority, making the Barcola situation particularly important as the Reds continue their summer recruitment.
With PSG demanding a huge fee and Liverpool unwilling to meet the valuation, the Barcola transfer now appears increasingly difficult to complete.
