Reports suggesting that Cody Gakpo is seeking a move away from Liverpool appear to be inaccurate, with the Dutch forward not pushing for an exit ahead of the new season.
Speculation over Gakpo’s future intensified following Liverpool’s decision to part ways with Arne Slot, a move that reportedly surprised the Netherlands international. While several outlets claimed the 27-year-old was considering leaving Anfield, journalist Alex Crook has dismissed those reports.
Crook stated that claims of Gakpo requesting a transfer are “wide of the mark,” indicating the attacker remains committed to Liverpool despite recent uncertainty surrounding the club.
Since joining from PSV Eindhoven in 2023, Gakpo has played a key role for the Reds. He enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 campaign, contributing 25 goals and assists as Liverpool lifted the Premier League title. Although his output dropped to 15 goal contributions last season, Liverpool’s struggles were reflected across the squad rather than being isolated to the Dutchman.
With four years remaining on his contract, Gakpo continues to be linked with a potential move away. However, current indications suggest there is no desire from the player to force an exit.
Liverpool are still exploring options to strengthen their attacking depth, particularly in wide areas following Mohamed Salah’s departure. However, those plans are not believed to be connected to Gakpo’s future.
Crook also played down recent suggestions from Ahmed El-Shenawy that Salah could make a sensational return to Anfield, insisting there is currently no substance behind those claims.
