Federico Chiesa Takes Another Step Toward Liverpool Return After First-Team Training
Federico Chiesa appears to be making progress in his recovery after joining some of Liverpool’s first-team players for a training session.
The Italian winger has missed Liverpool’s opening seven matches of the season after suffering what Andoni Iraola previously described as a minor muscle problem following the pre-season friendly against Como.
Chiesa’s last appearance came on August 16, with reports suggesting he could return to team training towards the end of September.
A fresh update has now provided further encouragement. Liverpool goalkeeper Hayden Smith revealed that he was invited to train at the AXA Training Centre alongside Chiesa and James McConnell.
Smith described the experience as exciting, explaining that he was surprised to find himself training alongside players he normally watches on television.
While the session is a positive indication that Chiesa is stepping up his rehabilitation, Liverpool have yet to announce a specific date for his return to competitive action.
The winger will continue to be assessed as he works his way back to full fitness.
