Liverpool may still look to strengthen their defence before the summer transfer window closes, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggesting the Reds are keeping a close watch on the centre-back market.

The departure of Ibrahima Konate earlier this summer after the expiry of his contract left Andoni Iraola with fewer defensive options, and Liverpool’s situation became even more complicated when Joe Gomez picked up an injury during pre-season.
Iraola has since confirmed that Gomez is expected to miss the opening stages of the Premier League campaign. Although the club has promising young defenders in Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni, neither has yet established themselves at senior level. Jacquet only arrived this summer, while Leoni is still working his way back from a long-term knee injury.
As a result, bringing in another experienced central defender could become a priority before the transfer deadline.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that Liverpool should not be ruled out of making a late move for a centre-back.
According to the Italian journalist, the Reds are seriously considering strengthening the heart of their defence during the closing weeks of the transfer window. He added that, at this stage, Liverpool appear more likely to sign a centre-back than a right-back.

With Gomez sidelined and limited proven depth available, the Merseyside club could decide that reinforcing their back line is essential before the new season gathers pace.
Liverpool are also continuing their search for attacking reinforcements, particularly as Mohamed Salah edges closer to an exit.
Romano reports that the Reds have held discussions with the representatives of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola as they identify potential replacements for Salah. The club has also been in contact with the camp of fellow PSG attacker Ibrahim Mbaye.
While Mbaye is viewed as a younger option, Liverpool’s interest in both players suggests they are exploring multiple solutions as they reshape their attacking department ahead of the new campaign.
