Guglielmo Vicario Breaks Silence on Tottenham Exit After Juventus Move

Guglielmo Vicario has opened up about his Tottenham departure after completing a loan move to Juventus, admitting that his time in North London did not always go according to plan.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper has joined the Italian giants on loan, with Juventus reportedly holding an option to make the move permanent for £8.5 million next summer.

Vicario’s Tottenham career had appeared to be heading towards an uncertain conclusion after Antonin Kinsky replaced him as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper towards the end of last season.

The Italian endured heavy criticism during his final campaign, although his spell at Tottenham also produced some memorable achievements. He helped Spurs secure a fifth-place finish during his first season and was part of the squad that lifted the Europa League in his second.

Now beginning a new chapter in Turin, Vicario has chosen not to dwell on the circumstances surrounding his departure.

Speaking to Tuttosport, he acknowledged that some things at Tottenham did not work out as expected but insisted that he is focused on the future.

«“I don’t like talking about the past or about what should or could have been done. There were some dynamics that didn’t align, probably for different reasons that don’t make sense to discuss now. I want to focus on the present and maintain balance during this new adventure.”»

Vicario also reflected positively on how playing abroad had shaped him, suggesting that his Tottenham experience ultimately helped him mature.

He said his time outside Italy exposed him to different cultures, languages, dressing rooms and footballing methods, experiences that he believes will make him a more complete player.

Vicario Has No Hard Feelings Towards De Zerbi

Despite losing his place in Tottenham’s starting XI, Vicario also had warm words for manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The goalkeeper revealed that he enjoyed an excellent relationship with the Italian coach and praised him for being honest and direct.

«“Fantastic, from day one. I thank him, and I did so personally on the day I signed for Juventus.”»

Vicario added that De Zerbi was “a man of his word” and said he would remain grateful for the opportunity the manager gave him.

His comments suggest there is little bitterness surrounding his Tottenham exit, despite the difficult circumstances that eventually led to him losing his starting position.

For Vicario, the move to Juventus represents an opportunity to rebuild his reputation and prove himself at another historic European club.

After a complicated ending in North London, the Italian goalkeeper will now be hoping that his next chapter in Turin brings a fresh start and regular first-team football.
