Report: Liverpool Plotting Surprise Move for Winger Who Has Regularly Troubled the Reds

Liverpool are reportedly considering a late-window move for Crystal Palace winger Ismaïla Sarr, a player who has caused the Reds plenty of problems over the years.

Liverpool have already had two offers rejected for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, with the latest bid believed to be worth around £60 million. However, reports suggest the club may also be keeping an eye on another Premier League wide attacker.

According to Turkish journalist Nevzat Dindar, Liverpool have expressed interest in Sarr, who is also being targeted by Galatasaray.

The Senegal international was surprisingly left out of Palace’s squad for their weekend defeat to Everton. Although the club officially listed him as injured, Sarr had trained in the days leading up to the match and is reportedly keen on leaving Selhurst Park, despite Palace’s desire to keep him.

Sarr is certainly a familiar name to Liverpool supporters. The 28-year-old has scored seven goals in 10 appearances against the Reds, including five goals in his last five meetings with them.

He famously scored twice during Watford’s 3-0 victory over Liverpool in February 2020, handing Jurgen Klopp’s eventual champions one of their most memorable defeats of that season. He also scored twice in a 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Liverpool at Anfield last season.

With Mohamed Salah no longer at Anfield, Sarr could potentially fill the right-wing role. He also brings plenty of Premier League experience, having made 116 appearances in the competition. Last season, he enjoyed an impressive campaign for Palace, scoring 21 goals across all competitions.

Sarr is reportedly valued at around £50 million, although his age is somewhat outside the profile Liverpool’s ownership typically prefers. Nevertheless, his experience could allow him to make an immediate impact rather than requiring a lengthy adaptation period.

For now, Liverpool’s interest in Sarr appears to be behind their pursuit of Minteh and Bradley Barcola. The report from Turkey also needs further confirmation from more established sources.

Still, with Sarr’s surprise absence from Palace’s squad and Liverpool’s need for attacking reinforcements, this is certainly a transfer story worth watching.
