Conflicting Cody Gakpo Reports Leave Liverpool Fans Unsure Over His Future
Liverpool supporters remain uncertain about Cody Gakpo’s future after conflicting reports emerged regarding a possible move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Reports from the Netherlands suggest that the 27-year-old winger would be open to joining Spurs, who are believed to be showing strong interest in him. TEAMtalk has also claimed that Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola could approve his departure if the club manages to sign a replacement before the transfer deadline.
Liverpool have recently been heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain duo Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, raising the possibility of major changes to the Reds’ attacking options before the window closes.
Conflicting claims over Gakpo
TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook offered a different view on Tuesday, suggesting that Liverpool are currently unlikely to allow Gakpo to join Tottenham.
Crook said Liverpool sources believe the Dutchman has enjoyed a strong pre-season under Iraola and that the manager sees him as a player capable of improving further under his guidance.
However, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Tottenham’s pursuit remains active.
Romano explained that discussions between the clubs are continuing and that Gakpo is open to moving to Spurs, with personal terms not expected to be an issue.
According to Romano, the main obstacle is reaching an agreement over the transfer fee. He also claimed that if Gakpo does leave for Tottenham, Liverpool would look to sign two wingers, with Barcola remaining their leading target.
Gakpo’s future remains unclear
With the transfer deadline approaching, it remains difficult to predict whether Gakpo will still be a Liverpool player in two weeks.
Much could depend on Liverpool’s efforts to sign Barcola and potentially Mbaye. The Reds are unlikely to sanction Gakpo’s departure without securing an attacking replacement first.
Barcola’s potential transfer could reportedly require a huge fee, meaning negotiations with PSG could prove decisive.
Gakpo endured a difficult campaign last season but has appeared much sharper during the summer. He impressed for the Netherlands at the World Cup and also made an impact during Liverpool’s pre-season, including scoring and assisting against Como.
For now, the situation remains unresolved. Tottenham continue to be linked with Gakpo, while Liverpool appear unwilling to make a final decision until their own transfer plans become clearer.
