“I Took a Knock…” – Liverpool Star Reveals Bizarre Injury Issue After World Cup Match

Liverpool Duo Suffer Injury Scares During World Cup Victory

Liverpool players Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo gave supporters a brief injury concern during the Netherlands’ emphatic 5-1 World Cup win over Sweden on Saturday.

Gakpo starred with two goals, while Van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch also featured for the Dutch side. However, the celebrations were slightly overshadowed by injury worries involving two Reds stars.

After the match, Gakpo was seen with an ice pack on his right arm, while Van Dijk admitted he experienced a strange issue after taking a knock during the game.

Speaking afterwards, the Netherlands captain revealed: “I took a hit to my hip and suddenly couldn’t feel my thigh anymore. It felt very strange, but it was probably just a nerve issue. I don’t think it’s serious, but we’ll assess it.”

Despite the concerns, Van Dijk appeared optimistic that the problem is not significant. With the Netherlands all but through to the knockout rounds, manager Ronald Koeman may choose to rest key players against already-eliminated Tunisia in their final group match.

That could provide both Van Dijk and Gakpo with valuable recovery time before the Round of 32, reducing the risk of aggravating their minor knocks.

Liverpool fans will be hoping neither player suffers any lasting damage as they continue their World Cup campaign.
