Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott ahead of the January transfer window, but Lamine Camara could be a better option to address the Reds’ midfield problems.
According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea are currently leading the race for Scott after their proposed move for the midfielder failed to materialise during the summer.
The Blues remain fully focused on signing the 23-year-old, with a January transfer possible if Bournemouth receive a suitable offer.
However, Liverpool are also monitoring the England international closely and have included him on their shortlist of potential midfield targets.
Liverpool Could Face a Huge Transfer Bill
Signing Scott in January would not come cheap, particularly given his importance to Bournemouth. Reports suggest the Cherries could demand between £90 million and £100 million for the midfielder during the winter window.
Scott’s contract runs until 2028, meaning Bournemouth may view the upcoming transfer window as an opportunity to secure a substantial fee before his deal enters its final stages.
Liverpool and Chelsea could therefore consider waiting until the summer of 2027, when his valuation may become more affordable.
With other midfield options available, the Reds will need to decide whether Scott is worth such a significant investment.
Why Lamine Camara Could Be the Better Choice
Although Scott offers energy, versatility and the ability to contribute in both attacking and defensive situations, Lamine Camara could be a more suitable signing for Liverpool.
The AS Monaco midfielder is expected to cost considerably less than his Bournemouth counterpart, potentially making him a more attractive option for the Reds.
More importantly, Camara possesses qualities that Liverpool desperately need in their midfield, particularly his ability to protect the defence and operate as a natural holding midfielder.
According to statistics cited by FotMob, the Senegal international wins 68.4% of his duels per 90 minutes, placing him in the 97th percentile for that metric.
His strength in individual battles, defensive awareness and ability to provide cover in front of the backline could give Liverpool the balance they have been missing this season.
Camara could also help protect Florian Wirtz’s freedom to operate in advanced positions without leaving the defence exposed.
While Scott is capable of carrying out defensive responsibilities, he is not naturally as disciplined in a holding role as the Monaco midfielder appears to be.
Liverpool must therefore carefully consider whether spending a potentially enormous fee on Scott would solve their biggest midfield problem.
For the Reds, signing a genuine defensive midfielder could be more important than adding another energetic all-rounder.
The big question is whether Liverpool will pursue Alex Scott or prioritise Lamine Camara as they prepare for their next midfield rebuild.
