Tottenham Hotspur may have secured consecutive Premier League victories, but their struggles in front of goal remain a major concern for Roberto De Zerbi.
Both Dominic Solanke and Omar Marmoush have scored just once in the league this season, raising questions about whether Spurs need a more reliable goalscorer to strengthen their attack.
Reports suggest De Zerbi had his eyes on a familiar face during the summer transfer window — former Marseille forward Amine Gouiri.
👀 De Zerbi wanted a reunion with Gouiri
According to reports from La Provence, relayed by Sport Witness, Tottenham showed serious interest in signing the Algerian international before the summer transfer window closed.
De Zerbi previously worked with Gouiri at Marseille after the forward joined the French side from Rennes in January 2025. The pair enjoyed a productive spell together, with Gouiri contributing 17 goals and six assists under the Italian coach.
Overall, the 26-year-old has registered 26 goals and 10 assists in 53 appearances for Marseille.
However, Tottenham’s move reportedly fell through because the club could not find a buyer for Richarlison, preventing them from completing the deal.
Atlético Madrid have also been linked with Gouiri, while the possibility of a January departure from Marseille has reportedly emerged.
It remains unclear whether Spurs will make another attempt to sign him when the transfer window reopens.
🔥 Gouiri is in impressive form
The Marseille attacker has started the current campaign strongly, recording five goals and two assists in eight Ligue 1 appearances.
Despite those impressive numbers, there are questions about whether he is the type of striker Tottenham desperately need.
Gouiri is not a conventional number nine, and his style of play has similarities to Marmoush. With Spurs searching for greater attacking efficiency, De Zerbi could prefer a physically stronger centre-forward capable of holding up the ball, occupying defenders and consistently threatening the penalty area.
Several other forwards have recently been linked with Tottenham, suggesting that a traditional striker could be a bigger priority in January.
⚪ Will Tottenham return for Gouiri?
Gouiri’s previous relationship with De Zerbi and his recent performances make him an interesting option for Spurs.
However, Tottenham must decide whether to pursue the Marseille star or focus on a more traditional goalscorer who better addresses their current problems.
Could Gouiri be the striker Tottenham need, or should De Zerbi target a different type of forward? 👀👇
