LIVERPOOL FANS FURIOUS WITH JORDAN HENDERSON OVER CHELSEA CELEBRATION
Liverpool supporters have expressed their anger at former captain Jordan Henderson after he celebrated a goal by tapping the Chelsea badge twice during the Blues’ emphatic 5-1 victory over Bournemouth.
Henderson, who recently joined Chelsea under manager Xabi Alonso, delivered an outstanding performance, recording an assist before scoring twice, including a stunning free-kick in the 70th minute.
However, his celebration quickly attracted attention, with some Liverpool fans accusing him of disrespecting his former club. One supporter even branded him a “proper rat” after watching him strike the Chelsea badge.
The reaction is understandable given Henderson’s remarkable 12-year spell at Anfield. He joined Liverpool from Sunderland in 2011 and made 492 appearances, scoring 33 goals and providing 58 assists.
Henderson became Liverpool captain in 2015 following Steven Gerrard’s departure and played a major role in the club’s success, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
He left Liverpool in 2023 to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq before spells at Ajax and Brentford, eventually returning to the Premier League with Chelsea.
Despite the criticism, many Liverpool supporters have defended their former skipper, arguing that he deserves to celebrate for his current team after everything he contributed to the Reds.
Others have pointed out that Henderson scored against Bournemouth, not Liverpool, and believe fans should allow him to enjoy his new chapter in football.
