Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike is aiming to return to competitive football in December as he continues his recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon.
According to L’Équipe, the France international has made encouraging progress six months after suffering the injury and has now reached another significant stage in his rehabilitation.
Ekitike is targeting a return to team training in November, with the possibility of being included in Liverpool’s matchday squad in December.
The 23-year-old suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon against PSG in April and has been following a carefully managed rehabilitation programme ever since. Although the injury has kept him out of recent France squad discussions, his main focus remains on completing his recovery.
In recent days, Ekitike travelled to the United States to meet with a medical specialist and receive an assessment of his rehabilitation. The consultation reportedly confirmed that he remains on schedule, with the striker now able to begin light running on the pitch.
Recovery from an Achilles injury can vary from player to player, but Ekitike is hopeful of joining team training in November before making his return to competitive action in December.
His progress will come as encouraging news for Liverpool, particularly with the club dealing with injury concerns in attack. Cody Gakpo recently suffered a setback while representing the Netherlands against Serbia.
Ekitike enjoyed an impressive first season at Anfield before his injury, finishing the 2025–26 campaign as Liverpool’s leading Premier League scorer with 11 goals.
A return before the busy winter schedule could provide Liverpool with another attacking option as the season enters a crucial period.
