Tottenham’s January Transfer Priorities Revealed After Major Squad Weaknesses Emerge

What Tottenham Need to Fix in the January Transfer Window After Major Issues Surface

Tottenham’s difficult start to the season has exposed several weaknesses in the squad, despite the club spending more than £300million during the summer.

Spurs remain without a Premier League victory after five matches and currently sit at the bottom of the table. Although 10 new players were brought in as part of a major squad rebuild, the team still appears short of quality and depth in several areas.

One of Tottenham’s biggest concerns is their lack of a natural centre-forward. Omar Marmoush joined from Manchester City on loan with a £60million obligation to buy, but the Egyptian has not looked entirely comfortable as the main striker.

Marmoush often prefers dropping deeper rather than playing as a traditional No.9, leaving Dominic Solanke with much of the responsibility in attack. Solanke has also struggled to find his best form.

Tottenham’s attacking play has consequently lacked a clear focal point, while Richarlison’s uncertain future has further reduced their options. The Brazilian has reportedly asked to leave, leaving Spurs heavily dependent on Marmoush and Solanke.

Finding a proven goalscorer in January could prove difficult, but adding another striker could become one of Tottenham’s biggest priorities.

Spurs also appear short of options on the wings. Despite bringing in Chelsea loanee Mykhailo Mudryk, Mathys Tel has yet to consistently impress, while Savio has also struggled to make the desired impact following his £85million arrival.

Another area that could require attention is right-back. Djed Spence’s departure to Inter Milan left Tottenham considering whether they needed another option behind Pedro Porro.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi instead trusted Archie Gray to provide cover. However, Porro’s current injury has highlighted the lack of depth in the position, with Tottenham appearing considerably less effective without their regular right-back.

With several weaknesses already exposed, Tottenham could once again be active when the January transfer window opens.
