Ben Jacobs Reveals Liverpool’s Position on Tottenham Defender Djed Spence

Liverpool have been linked with a number of defensive reinforcements this summer, but the latest reports indicate that Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence is not among the club’s primary transfer targets.

Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs has played down rumours of a potential move to Anfield, revealing that Liverpool’s focus remains on other areas despite Spence being available on the market.

Liverpool Focused Elsewhere

Jacobs says Liverpool are not pursuing a deal for the 25-year-old at this time. Although Spence is reportedly open to leaving Tottenham before the transfer window shuts and has been offered to several Premier League clubs by his representatives, the Reds have yet to make any formal contact.

Posting on X, Jacobs explained that Liverpool’s recruitment team is currently concentrating on different targets rather than the England international.

Uncertain Future at Tottenham

While Liverpool appear to have stepped away from the race for now, Spence continues to generate interest from elsewhere in the Premier League, with Manchester United understood to be monitoring his situation.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is also believed to be willing to keep the versatile defender, leaving his future unresolved as the transfer deadline approaches.

If regular first-team opportunities remain uncertain in North London, Spence’s representatives are expected to continue exploring potential moves.

Strong World Cup Performances

Spence boosted his reputation with several eye-catching displays at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

One of his best performances came in England’s quarter-final win over Norway, where he impressed at both ends of the pitch, combining solid defending with dangerous forward runs to help his side progress.

His ability to operate on either flank makes him an appealing option for clubs seeking defensive versatility and reliable squad depth.

Could Liverpool Return?

Spence’s speed, athleticism and ability to fill multiple defensive roles would suit Andoni Iraola’s energetic style at Liverpool. As a homegrown player, he would also strengthen the squad’s depth across the back line.

Even so, Ben Jacobs maintains that Liverpool are prioritising other transfer options, making a move for the Tottenham defender unlikely at this stage unless the club’s plans change later in the transfer window.

For now, a switch to Anfield appears improbable, though the situation could still evolve before the window closes.
