Arsenal open talks to sign Tottenham star in stunning transfer move

Arsenal explore sensational move for Tottenham star as initial transfer talks begin

Arsenal have reportedly made an initial approach over a stunning move for Tottenham captain Cristian Romero, despite the fierce rivalry between the two North London clubs.

After missing out on Vinicius Jr., who has agreed a new long-term contract with Real Madrid, the Gunners are now focusing on strengthening their defence. With William Saliba sidelined for the opening months of the season following back surgery, Mikel Arteta is keen to add another experienced centre-back.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have contacted Romero’s representatives to gather information about a potential transfer. However, Tottenham are reluctant to sell one of their key players to their biggest rivals and would rather see the Argentine move abroad.

Atletico Madrid are currently leading the race for Romero’s signature, while Inter Milan’s interest has cooled as they focus on other transfer business. If neither club can reach an agreement with Spurs, Arsenal could still remain in the picture.

A direct transfer between Tottenham and Arsenal would be extremely rare. The last player to move directly from Spurs to the Gunners was goalkeeper Pat Jennings in 1977, while Sol Campbell’s controversial switch in 2001 came after his contract had expired.
