Reliable journalist reveals Liverpool’s message to Spurs over Cody Gakpo transfer

Liverpool have reportedly informed Tottenham Hotspur that Cody Gakpo could be available, but only if a deal involving Djed Spence is included, according to journalist Darren Lewis.

Speculation surrounding Gakpo’s future has intensified after Fabrizio Romano revealed that Spurs are monitoring the Netherlands international, although Liverpool have previously insisted they are not actively looking to sell the winger this summer.

Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Lewis claimed Liverpool’s stance is clear: Spurs can sign Gakpo if they are willing to let full-back Djed Spence move in the opposite direction, with an additional £30–35 million expected to complete the deal.

Lewis also suggested Spence would be open to joining Liverpool if the Reds formalize their interest, adding that he would be surprised if the England international remains at Tottenham beyond the end of the transfer window.

A potential swap could make sense for both clubs. Liverpool are reportedly looking to strengthen at right-back, while Tottenham are searching for attacking reinforcements under Roberto De Zerbi. However, no official negotiations or agreements have been confirmed.

For now, the proposed Gakpo-Spence swap remains speculative, with both clubs yet to publicly comment on the reports. The coming weeks of the transfer window will determine whether the rumours develop into a concrete deal.
