Liverpool Boss Admits Major Issue After Fulham Draw Just 60 Hours After Atletico Win
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has admitted that his squad is struggling to maintain its intensity amid a demanding fixture schedule after the Reds were held to a disappointing draw by Fulham at Anfield.
Just 60 hours after their impressive Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid, Liverpool looked short of energy and creativity. Despite keeping a clean sheet, they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against a determined Fulham side.
Iraola was clearly unhappy with the result and admitted that his team lacked the freshness required to win the match.
Speaking after the game, the Liverpool boss said the players started slowly and were not good enough in the final third.
He also highlighted the extremely short turnaround between matches, explaining that several changes to his starting XI were made because players were physically tired.
Iraola admitted that Liverpool now face another quick turnaround, with Tottenham awaiting them in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
The manager also addressed Bradley Barcola’s physical condition, explaining that the new signing is still building up his fitness through regular matches. However, Iraola stressed that the issue isn’t limited to Barcola, with the entire squad struggling for freshness.
Despite remaining unbeaten under Iraola, Liverpool have now dropped more points than they would have expected in domestic games. Their lack of attacking sharpness is becoming a concern, particularly following Mohamed Salah’s departure.
The Reds must quickly recover and find a solution to their fitness and rotation problems before facing Tottenham, with an increasingly demanding schedule ahead.
