Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been fined £8,000 by the FA following an incident in the tunnel area at Anfield after Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on 29 August.
The Brazilian accepted a misconduct charge after being seen kicking and damaging the fourth official’s electronic board while heading down the tunnel after the final whistle.
According to the BBC, the electronic board is used during matches to display added time and substitutions.
The FA confirmed that Alisson was charged with acting improperly in the tunnel area. He accepted the charge and received the standard £8,000 penalty.
There will be no suspension for the Liverpool goalkeeper.
The incident came after a controversial penalty decision during the match. Alisson rushed out to challenge for the ball following a throw-in from Liam Delap, with Neco Williams going down inside the box. Referee Barrott immediately awarded a penalty, which Gibbs-White converted to put Forest 2-1 ahead.
However, the Key Match Incidents Panel later reviewed the decision and concluded that the penalty should not have been awarded. The panel explained that the contact resulted from Alisson’s forward momentum as he attempted to reach the ball.
The match also saw a separate problem involving the same electronic board when Liverpool attempted to make three substitutions while the score was 1-1. The ball went out of play three times, but the changes could not be completed.
The unusual technical issue meant Andoni Iraola’s side had to adjust their plans before Victor Munoz scored an 82nd-minute equaliser to secure a point.
With concerns already being raised over matchday technology in the Premier League, the incident at Anfield is likely to attract further attention.
Liverpool now turn their attention to Fulham, while questions remain over what happened during the 29 August fixture.
